Service description:
Specialist (2a) inpatient rehab unit for patients with brain injury. Priority given to traumatic brain injury and younger patients with complex therapy needs. Service is supported by MDT including Rehabilitation Medicine, liaison nurse, SLT, PT, OT and neuropsychology. Access to liaison psychiatry and family support from Headway Dorset. Service visits / reviews trauma wards at Poole and Dorchester Hospitals.
Exclusion criteria:
Under 16 years. Older patients with multiple co morbidity and/or frailty. Patients whose needs are better met by psychiatric services.
Catchment areas: Dorset GP
Referral process: via consultant within neurosurgical, trauma or acute medical services.
