Service description:

The service provides inpatient neurorehabilitation for working age patients with acquired neurological problems including stroke, traumatic brain injury and other rarer conditions such as anoxic brain injury or Guillain Barre Syndrome. The unit consists of 13 beds. Patients with complex needs are managed using a goal focused interdisciplinary approach. The rehabilitation team consists of 2 Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine, rehabilitation nurses, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, neuropsychology and speech and language therapy.

Exclusion criteria:

1. Patients should be over 16 years and of working age; individuals outside this age group are considered on a case by case basis.

2. The neurological condition should be the primary diagnosis.

3. Patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness are considered for a short assessment admission to assess rehabilitation potential
