LINDA MAGISTRIS OBE
CEO and FOUNDER – THE GOOD GRIEF TRUST
Linda first met her partner BAFTA winning Director Graham Theakston when she was a child actress in the original cast of Grange Hill, in the 70’s/80’s. They worked together on the iconic BBC Children’s programme, and by chance met again 30 years later.
She has run a portfolio of businesses from a Wedding Consultancy to Vintage Tea Rooms and was a presenter on live television for over 10 years. Graham and Linda were together for 8 years, until he was diagnosed with a rare soft tissue sarcoma in 2014 and died five and half months later.
Linda struggled to cope with her grief and could not find the right support and it was then that she realised health professionals had limited access or knowledge around the services that could help her individual needs. In 2014 the UK did not have a central national signposting resource to bring all bereavement services together under one national database, for both the bereaved and those working to support them.
In 2016 The Good Grief Trust website launched, and the charity is now the UK’s leading umbrella network, with 1000+ specialist charities and bereavement support services under one umbrella.
The Good Grief condolence and signposting card is used by NHS Trusts, GP practices, community services and those working with the bereaved, as an essential resource within a professional’s toolkit and the charity has developed a vast online community across their extensive social platforms.
The Trust is co-founder and Secretariat to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Bereavement Support, working with Government to influence improvement to UK bereavement care.
In 2018 Linda received the Points of Light Award from Downing Street, for establishing the charity and in 2019, created the first National Grief Awareness Week campaign.
In 2023, their Sit with Hope campaign was born. A new national campaign to install plaques on benches and seats, with a QR code direct to the website. To date over 900 plaques have been pledged in communities across the UK, including benches on the Terrace at the House of Commons.
In 2025 Linda was appointed an OBE for service to the bereaved.
Linda is passionate to ensure that anyone grieving, under any circumstance knows they are not alone, and they have access to help and hope from day one.
